New Schedule!

Pressure canning workshop: steelhead salmon (August 2012).

Hello and Happy New Year!  Many things are on the go and we're already gearing up for another amazing year of tree planting and care, food growing, canning, and celebrations.

The Food Skills for Families Seniors' edition is returning to Collingwood this month, with another ten seniors lined up to meet new friends  and to learn and share about healthy cooking for older adults.  This will be the fifth time we've  hosted the program and it's always well-received.

This spring we'll be bringing Seed Swaps and Sales both to Renfrew Park Community Centre and to Collingwood Neighbourhood House.  As in the past, these events are supported by West Coast Seeds and help us bring pesticide-free, non-GMO and heirloom seeds to community members at an affordable price.  They're also great opportunities to ask gardening questions and trade in your extra seeds for something you might need more.

We'll be hosting the Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon Program again and with it, many fun food skills workshops.  This year we're launching an International Pickles workshop series, starting with homemade Chinese and Japanese Pickles.  Later this year we'll be exploring pickling traditions and stories from North Africa, India, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and more.  Live in Renfrew-Collingwood and have a pickle tradition you'd like to share with neighbours?  Get in touch with us.

July 2012 Community Kitchen: Kids showing off their
handmade fruit pies!
Do you want to get gardening but don't know where to begin? Are you an advanced gardener looking to pick up some extra tips?  Want to share some great gardening tips with others?  We've got a great series of gardening and fruit tree workshops lined up and we'd love to see you there.
